My milestones coming due

When you are leading initiatives, you need to know what is due when and how your responsibilities (or milestones, initiatives, actions, or activities) are progressing. Follow these steps to create a visualization that will help you easily identify milestones that are due soon, as illustrated in the image below. You can also create a version of this visualization that shows initiatives coming due.

How to use

  • In a list ordered by due date (in this example, milestone end date), you will see milestones coming due soonest and details such as planning summary and weekly status.
  • Double click initiatives to see details on the milestones tab and the weekly status tab.
  • Determine if you are ready for your due dates by fully planning for your milestones, impacts and status.

Step-by-step Instructions

1. Start by selecting Milestones in the card structure panel on the left side of your workspace.

Select Milestones.gif

2. Next, click on the filter icon Filter_icon.png in the upper right corner and select Filter by milestone. Choose the following filters:

  • Milestone owner - Filter for me only
  • End date - Next 14 days (or the time period that best suits your needs, e.g. one week, two months, etc.; you can always manually select a date range or your company may have different options in the time period drop down)
  • Planning summary - All stages except for Cancelled or Completed initiatives

3. In order to view the milestones due soonest, navigate to the upper left corner and click on the visualization type and select List view from the dropdown.

Next, click on the view setting icon  View_settings_icon.png  to the left of the filter icon, the click on the sort icon Sort_icon.png. Choose Sort by milestone, scroll down and select End date. Ensure that the order is Ascending.

Visualization Option

If you want to see this same view for initiatives, follow the above steps with these modifications.

In Step 2, Filter by initiative as follows:

  • Initiative Owner - Filter for me only
  • L4 latest estimated date (or the time period that best suits your needs, e.g. one week, two months, etc.; you can always manually select a date range or your company may have different options in the time period drop down)
  • Planning summary - All stages except for Cancelled or Completed initiatives

In Step 3, Sort as follows:

  • Sort by initiative - L4 latest estimated date

One best practice is to view and update this data weekly. You will want to save your workbook view for future reference.
