Track Impact with Online Reports

Wave's online reports allow you to analyze impact across different attributes and drill into the data to see which initiatives are driving the most impact. There are three main reports to track impact, which are outlined below.

Note:  Not all programs include Online reports. If you do not see these reports as options on your 'Reports' tab, it is likely that your program uses custom Excel extracts for reporting. You can find these reports in the same tab under the 'Data Extracts' section.
Impact over Time report

The Impact over Time report is useful report for viewing how your impact pipeline is building up over the lifetime of your program. The below example shows a common use case where you may want to view planned impact pipeline by quarter and colored by current stage gate so that you can see how far along your impact dollars have progressed in the stage gate lifecycle.

1. Go to the Reports tab and select the Impact over Time report.

2. In the Select panel, choose the impact series (e.g. Planned, Actual, Forecast) and the metric(s) to analyze:

3. In the Group panel, choose the time dimension you would like the impact values to aggregate by on the x-axis.

4. In the Color panel, choose to color the impact by either data series, selected metrics, or an attribute or workstream.

TIP: Most common coloring options are Initiative Stage Gate, impact workstream, and selected metrics.

5. In the Filter panel, choose which data to include or exclude from your analysis.

Distribution of Impacts report

1. Go to the Reports tab and select the Distribution of Impacts report:

2. In the Select panel, choose the impact series (e.g. Planned, Actual, Forecast) and the metric(s) to analyze:

3. In the Group panel, choose to group the impact bars by selected metrics, an attribute, or workstream.

4. In the Color panel, choose to color the impact bars by data series, metrics, an attribute, or workstream.

5. In the Filter panel, choose which data to include or exclude from your analysis.

Evolution of Impacts report

1. Go to the Reports tab and select the Evolution of Impacts report.

2. In the Select panel, choose the impact series (e.g. Planned, Actual, Forecast) and the metric(s) to analyze.

3. In the Group panel, choose the data snapshots you would like to display. Snapshots allow users to compare data currently in Wave against data from the past and help illustrate how impacts have shifted or grown throughout the lifetime of the program.

NOTE: Your reports will likely have more snapshots available to select based on how long your program has been running. If you see more than 10 snapshots, we suggest to select one snapshot every four weeks to reduce the amount of bars displayed.

4. In the Color panel, choose to color the impact bars by the data series, metrics, an attribute, or workstream.

TIP: The most common coloring selection in the Evolution report is by Stage Gate so that you can see how impacts are progressing in the stage gate pipeline.

5. In the Filter panel, choose which data to include or exclude from your analysis.
