Impact Estimates in Wave
While using Wave, you may encounter the concept of impact estimates, typically when viewing calculated metric columns in list view or impact measures in stacked charts. An estimate is a calculation Wave makes based on the best available information for a given initiative. The estimate value of the initiative is based on Planned (P), Actual (A), and Forecast (F) values. For more information about impact estimates in your company's configuration of Wave, check the Help & Guides section of your Wave dashboard or reach out to your Wave administrator.
Below is the logic that Wave typically uses to calculate the impact estimate value. Note some configurations of Wave do not include estimates or the logic to calculate estimates may vary slightly.
- If the Actual value is available, Estimate = Actual value
- If there is no Actual value, Estimate = Forecast value
- If there are no Actual or Forecast values, Estimate = Planned value
- If there are no Actual, Forecast or Planned values, Estimate = blank
The following example shows how the impact estimate varies based on available values.
May | June | July | August | September | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Planned | 10 | 10 | 15 | 15 | |
Actual | 9 | 8 | |||
Forecast | 12 | 17 | |||
